I wanted to stick with low-maintenance greenery for the front yard with interesting uniform foliage. The real interest of this house is its funky interior, and I wanted to compliment that in order to allow the inside to shine and for the outside to feel more effortless and chic. I used clusters of monoplantings; chartreuse fluffy foxtail ferns and structured, mod horsetail reed. It is rare that I avoid seasonal flowers in my projects, but I felt strongly that I wanted to stick with structural greenery for this one. 

The Bellini Room is of course the most iconic room in the house; warm, peach colored walls, neon signs, vintage finds. No other better plant to compliment this room than a bird of paradise. Its tropical coolness was the perfect fit. 

Once I saw my client’s collection of modern orb planters, I knew I wanted to use a succulent variety called “Strand of Pearls.” These plants mimic the shape of the planter itself in an interesting way and they trail down and spill over the sides of the pots to create almost a curtain effect. The plant's leaves are actually tiny globes that are super interesting to look at. They were without question the perfect fit for those pots in that space.  

In order for the plants to hold their own in the space and not compete with the litany of artwork, textures, and colors, I wanted bold and simple greenery. I didn’t want anything to blend in or seem too soft or unintentional. I love blending a variety of heights and leaf styles in my projects to create depth. Snake plants provide vertical, sharp visual interest points. Birds of paradise are the ultimate broadleaf, tropical show stopper and they just seemed like the perfect fit for both the dining room and in the Bellini Room. A funky fiddle leaf fig tree adds height and depth to the living room and welcomes you into the home as one of the first things you see.
